"Second Lieutenant, 5th Battalion (Territorial), Bedfordshire Regiment attached "D" Company, 8th Battalion. Killed in action 20th November 1917. Aged 27. Born at Gujranwala, Punjab, India. Son of Major Frederick Cholmondeley Dering Amesbury (Indian Army), and of Henrietta Ferris Amesbury; husband of Emma Mary Amesbury, of London. Served with 1st Division Canadian Expeditionary Force at Ypres and on the Somme. Wounded at Thiepval July, 1916. Buried in RIBECOURT BRITISH CEMETERY, Nord, France. PLot I. Row B. Grave 5.

Brevet Surgeon (and that's a rank you don't often see!), 14th August, 1860. Surgeon, 18th December, 1863. Surgeon Major, 11th
January, 1871. Died at Masuri, 6th October, 1881. Brother of Samuel Conrwallis Amesbury. Served in Burma, 1852-3 (medal), Indian Mutiny, 1857-8: commanded a troop of 3rd Oudh Irregular Cavalry, in the advance on Cawnpore (horse shot under him), appointed Acting ADC to General Neill, raised and horsed Volunteer Cavalry under Neill, served in the action of 2nd March, 1858, the attack on Belwar Fort, the actions of Amara (5th March), Thelga (17th April), Amara (25th April, and the capture of Fort Nagar (medal and Brevet promotion).

January, 1867. Surgeon Major, 1st July, 1873. Brigade Surgeon, 3rd December, 1883. Retired (with "extra pension"), 30th April, 1890. Died at Dehra Dun, 8th November, 1916. Brother of Joseph Walter Raleigh
Amesbury. Served on the North West Frontier, Hazara, 1868. Author of
"Manual of Treatment of Children in India".
